Season 1, Episode 1: Joy is in the journey
Location: USS Oberth
ON
It had taken longer than she would have cared to arrive at the Star base which housed her new command. The journey was tiring in and of itself but it did give her time to familiarise herself with the technical manuals and specifications for her new vessel. It was fast, manuverable, equipped with the very latest sensor and scientific equipment but it came with flaws. The weapons systems were almost non existent, it only had a single rear facing photon torpedo launcher that doubled as a probe launcher also and only a single shuttlecraft. It also had some rather sizeable structural limitations. The primary hull and secondary hull were separated by two pylons that were only wide enough to house a turbo lift shaft. It did not escape her that one good shot from a phaser beam and the ship could easily be torn in two because of it. Something even her bond mate had made comment on also.
She had parted ways with the other officers that had been travelling with them to Oberth and now found she had a moments peace with Mo'tek as they rounded a corner and caught sight of Oberth for the first time. She had to admit, despite her flaws she was a fine if somewhat unorthodox class of vessel.
The view was through a large window looking for upon Oberth from a transporter room.
"Two for transport" she ordered the chief behind the console as the pair stepped up onto the platform, her eyes still drawn to the vessel she was about to board.
"Energise"
The familiar hum and golden glow of the transporter took hold and the surroundings changed and morphed into a standard layout transporter room, an Andorrian officers operating the controls.
"Permission to come aboard Lieutenant?"
"Permission granted, Captain." The engineer replied with a respectful nod. "Lieutenant K'Ari th'Qarret. temporary Chief Engineer."
Mo'tek nodded at the Andorran. "Lieutenant Mo'Tek," He introduced himself after his wife. "Security Officer."
"Lieutenant." K'Ari replied respectfully. "The First Officer sends his regards but there has been an incident in Engineering that required his attention."
"Lieutenant, please define incident?" It couldn't be that bad was Sakara's immediate thought given that Oberth was still in space dock but then again they were on the edge of known space.
"Oh." K'Ari replied, surprised that the Captain hadn't been informed prior to her arrival. "Erm, a crewmember has been found dead in Engineering. I'm afraid I dont know any of the specifics as I was working on a problem with the warp intermix ratio, ma'am."
"We have difficulties with the warp drive?" And the list had started. Admiral April had warned her that the list would start the moment she stepped on board. Hers already had propulsion difficulties and a murder.
"Yes, Ma'am. The warp intermix ratio was running extremely rich. If it had continued, it would have caused a chain reaction. Thankfully, the situation is now under control and the warp drive is now within normal parameters." The Andorian reported.
"Understood" The Vulcan took just a moment, inhaled slowly trying to ground herself as she was already starting to feel a tad over whelmed by everything and she had only transported on board a few minutes prior.
"Is there anything more that I should be made aware of?"
"They're the only two things I know of, ma'am. My role here is only temporary." K'Ari replied respectfully.
Mo'tek cocked his eyebrow ever so slightly. "And the second?" he found himself asking despite his confusion following her disclosure of being on the ship temporary in answer to his wife's question that was clearly about the ship not her career at this moment in time. He assumed there was a second or why say there was only two things she knew of?
Humans he was reminded seemed to offer information not always required in the moment. He would have to learn to navigate this.
The Andorian's eyes narrowed slightly. "The warp core problem." She said counting with her fingers by extending her forefinger. "The mystery death of a crew member." She said adding a second finger to count. "That's the only two things I know about."
"That was actually 3 things Lieutenant," the male Vulcan deadpanned.
Sakara's right eyebrow shot up quizzically as her mate seemed to be being pulled into a most illogical sparring match with a clearly young emotional officer so she decided now would be the appropriate moment to step in before it escalated.
"Your report is appreciated Lieutenant... Where are our quarters located?"
"I believe the Captain's quarters are on deck 1 section 3 Gamma. My apologies if that is wrong, Captain, if I was made aware before you arrived that you needed to know, I would have made sure I knew the exact location for you." th'Qarret replied.
"We will make do Lieutenant. I will not keep you from your duties" Sakara dismissed the young officer with a nod before turning to her mate. "It appears posting to this vessel will be nothing if not a curious experience!"
