Personal History		Reruk was born in 2341 on Hekaras II to Tesik and Nirad. Raised on a world acutely aware of the devastating, invisible scars that unchecked warp travel leaves on the space-time continuum, Reruk’s parents instilled in him a foundational reverence for the natural order and a deep-seated caution regarding technological overreach. Despite this conservative upbringing, Reruk was an academic prodigy. Eschewing the structured military path of Starfleet Academy, he instead chose to attend the prestigious civilian University of Alpha Centauri. There, he fast-tracked his curriculum to earn advanced doctorates in both Cellular Chronology and Subspace Physics. Driven by an insatiable desire to be at the absolute forefront of scientific discovery, Reruk constantly battles an internal war: his boundless academic ambition vs. his Hekaran heritage, which warns him that the natural lifespans of species are never meant to be subverted. He presents as aloof, intensely private, and fiercely protective of his research. Upon his graduation from the University of Alpha Centauri, Reruk was aggressively pursued by recruiters from the Darwin Genetic Research Institute. Believing the institute’s public front—a highly funded civilian organization dedicated to cellular regeneration and curing degenerative interstellar diseases—Reruk accepted a research offer, eager to apply his expertise to saving lives outside of Starfleet's military hierarchy. It did not take long for Reruk to discover the dark reality. Operating in the shadows to bypass strict Federation laws against life-extension manipulation and genetic enhancement, Darwin was secretly funded by rogue, black-ops factions within the Federation. Reruk was thrust into a highly classified project alongside Doxia Oroten, a brilliant but ruthlessly pragmatic geneticist who served as the head of the division. Together, they were ordered to weaponize temporal mechanics and genetic splicing to rewrite DNA strands and reverse the aging process, aiming to engineer a functionally immortal leadership class. While Reruk was initially seduced by the sheer scientific breakthrough, he grew horrified by the violation of law and nature—and the grotesque cellular mutations it caused in test subjects. He established a fraught, bitter dynamic with Oroten. While they were on a first-name basis and respected each other's intellect, Reruk openly disdained Oroten's lack of ethical guardrails, while Oroten viewed Reruk’s Hekaran caution as a fundamental weakness. In late 2365, a catastrophic biological and temporal containment failure occurred at a remote Darwin facility due to Oroten's reckless push for results. Realizing the horror could no longer be contained, Reruk gathered encrypted data proving the entire scope of the illegal project. Instead of running, Reruk contacted Starfleet Command. He agreed to orchestrate a sting and turn over Doxia Oroten, along with the entirety of the age-reversal research, in exchange for full legal clemency. At his formal sentencing in 2366, the Federation Council recognized Reruk's complicity but couldn't ignore his cooperation—or his unmatched scientific brilliance. He was stripped of his civilian status and ordered to serve out his sentence as a conscripted officer in Starfleet. Reruk's sudden appointment as Chief Science Officer of the USS Genesis in 2367 was a direct consequence of the devastating tragedy at Wolf 359. With Starfleet losing dozens of starships and thousands of experienced officers to the Borg, the fleet was left in a desperate personnel crisis. Specialized scientific minds were suddenly in critically short supply. Due to his unique expertise in advanced bio-physics and cellular chronology, Starfleet bypassed standard protocols, pinned provisional lieutenant commander pips on his collar, and assigned him to the Genesis.
